Are social networking sites suitable for children under the age of 16? Many of the youth do use the sites however some use them inappropriately.

Ms. Kerrigan, Deputy Head from Cardinal Pole RC secondary school explained that in school you can go on many websites but the school block sites like MSN, MySpace, Facebook and Bebo to ensure the safety of those students that are unaware of the dangers of the Internet.

Karina Gibson is the Citizenship Manager at Microsoft. She suggested that instead of blocking these sites, it would be better to find a way to use them safely.

65% of youth age 12-17 use social networking sites however people believe it is the responsibility of both children and parents to make sure they are being used safely.
