Why do women get paid less than men in most sports?

Women play as hard, train as hard and commit themselves no less than the men, but still, they don't get the financial rewards.

When I first started out we weren't paid. It was only the last couple of years when I played for Arsenal that we closed the semi-pro contract. It was a reasonable amount of money but obviously not as much as the men earn.

If a woman wants to make a career for herself in professional sport then she must be prepared for little financial reward.

If anyone had the chance to be paid as much as the men then it would be a great opportunity for women.

Surely this is unfair in an age where inequality is unacceptable.
