The 2012 Olympics is to be staged in London but can London's Transport system cope with the large numbers of people who will come from across the world to see them?

A lot of money is being used to improve the transport network across London so that it can cope with the large numbers of spectators who will be moving across London to travel to the Olympic park to watch the events.

The new East London Line will take passengers from Canary Wharf to Dalston with brand new trains and stations and there will be improvements to the North London Line. But will these improvements be completed in time. We asked Councillor Guy Nicholson - Cabinet Member for Regeneration and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games whether he thought the improvements would be completed in time.

The Mayor's transport improvements will be ready on time

Everybody who is involved in investing the billions and billions of pounds into our transport network in Hackney and across the rest of London are under strict instructions that it will be finished and complete for the summer of 2012.

Councillor Guy Nicholson - Cabinet Member for Regeneration and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

We were interested in finding out how people who work within the transport system think about the pressures the Olympics may bring.

There's going to be a lot more people on the road so it's going to slow the services down a lot. There won't be any additional buses. All they'll do is turn buses early beacuse they'll be running so late. They'll be turned early to keep 5 to 10 minute gaps between buses.

If the planned improvements are completed on time then the system will surely cope better than it does now but what will this be enough? We will only find out for sure during the summer of 2012.
