The 2012 Olympics are coming to East London. Is this going to encourage people to get fit?

We went onto the streets an asked people their opinions.

Well I think the Olympics could encourage young people to take up more sports because there's not very much for young people to do. All the clubs have gone.

Most people in Hackney were happy about the idea of the 2012 Olympics being in their home town as they thought it would give children around the area a chance to get involved.

We interiewed Dervis Konuralp, a paralympics medalist in swimming and the Hackney Olympics ambassador.
He thought the Olympics would inspire people by watching top athletes and wanting to copy them.

A trainer from the local Kingshall Sports Centre agreed that the 2012 Olympics will encourage children to get fit and that the centre could help them to "discover their strengths".

Guy Nicholson, local councellor for Regeneration and the Olympics said that Hackney had made a good start by opening the London Fields lido which is an Olympic size pool.
