We at Haggerston School often hear about girls being victims of street robbery but could it be new technology making them more of a target? Last month, a 29-year old woman was assaulted by three hoodies for £100 and her mobile phone. |

This problem is increasing as more and more technology is emerging. Some girls do not feel safe walking on the street because they might have to give up their possessions or be physically harmed for it. In our report, local MP Diane Abbott and Sgt Ralph Lawton from the Hackney Safer Schools Partnership discuss street robbery and what can be done to make girls and young women feel safer on the streets. |

There are safety measures which teenagers should be aware of, such as leaning against a wall when talking on mobile phones, to keep them hidden from thieves. Girls need to be aware of the dangers around them. Teenagers as well as adults should keep valuable possessions close to them and not in a bag because it is easy for thieves to take a bag and run off. The message is to think, be aware and take care. |
