The program "Best And Worst Places To Live 2006" claimed that Hackney was the worst place to live in the UK. Students from Hackney Free set out to investigate whether the allegations were true. |

The students researched on the internet, interviewed the general public and looked at Hackney itself for evidence. The public was divided in their opinions. We saw both sides of the story whereas the Channel 4 programme only showed one. Hackney has too much gun crime, drugs, litter, crime and gang problems. However, Hackney has great green spaces like London Fields, Hackney Marshes and Victoria Park. It has good transport and is multicultural. It also has well known historic buildings like the Hackney Empire and Sutton House. |

I'm living in Hackney since October 1961 and I find I've never been scared. I've read in the newspaper and seen in the news that things happen, but never witnessed it. They reckon that here along this stretch of road is the killer mile, but I've never yet seen anything, never been mugged.
