Airport Expansion: Should it continue?

How does airport expansion lead to global warming? Have you ever wondered why?

The main cause of global warming is carbon dioxide. The way planes make carbon dioxide is by burning fossil fuels. This process produces carbon dioxide and planes use a lot of fossil fuels so make a significant contribution to global warming.

The more runways we build the more planes will take off and the more damage we will do to our climate.

But air travel is cheap and fast and convenient. More runways would allow us to travel to more destinations. There could be more flights going to a particular place each day so air travel could become even more convenient. People can already take short weekend breaks to many destinations; with more runways more people could take these kind of flights and to lots more different places.

There are also many people who now take the plane from one part of the UK to another instead of the train which is often far more expensive and with a longer journey time.

How can we prevent planes from making global warming happen? Do people know they are causing global warming and how it will affect them in the future?

How can we persuade people not to use air travel when it is faster, cheaper and more conveient than the alternatives?

What we must do somehow is make air travel use less fuel than it does now. People need to be persuaded to only take planes for important reasons. We need to reduce the amount of planes which take off in each hour.

So we probably don't need any more runways.
